Why Participate?

The Greater New York Councils (GNYC) is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America that serves the New York City area. As a council GNYC has a unique structure in that it is sub-divided into boroughs, each led by a borough executive. Boroughs are then divided into districts. The Council has helped over five million young people become "Prepared. For Life." since its inception in the 1920s.

The programs of the Boy Scouts of America serve young people by enabling them to develop healthy habits and make positive choices. Scouting values emphasize; a lifelong appreciation of personal fitness, including the prevention of bullying, environmental stewardship & sustainability, leadership development and STEM Education. Scouting is both fun and empowering; introducing young people to careers and preparing them to be active citizens. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

From time to time, opportunities present themselves to recognize a special Scout in your life. By sending a donation to the Greater New York Council's , you can express your feelings to the entire New York City Scouting community. There are many occasions on which to honor a Scout. Whether it is achieving the rank of Eagle, the retirement of a cherished Scout leader, "get well" wishes to a sick friend, expression of condolences to a loved one's family, personal highlights like a birthday, wedding/anniversary or career promotion, or just a "thank you" for a job well done, your gift honors a person in a meaningful way while helping the Greater New York Councils serve New York City youth.
